March 29 ........................................................Im back to work for a few days Thursday so don't expect much blog action until Saturday. Until then keep it real.
![]() A milestone that should get some attentionThis may not be too interesting to most of you but it is something I feel that needs commenting on.
This Friday, March 31st one David Baker will have his last day at Corus Entertainment. He is moving on to bigger and better things and is finally cutting the cord with Corus. I did this five or so months ago and it was one of the more enjoyable feelings I have had. Knowing what Dave has endured in his four plus years at Corus I know he will walk out the door with his head up high, a big grin on his face and will never look back. Congrats Baker, it takes a lot of guts to leave and improve things for yourself. We will hoist a drink or two to celebrate when I am there in April. Now all that is left is to get Mcarts out of there and Corus can drift off into the archives of our minds.
![]() New feature column
Being a Pedestrian
More and more I am almost getting rundown on a daily basis in this city so I feel like I should give a good rant about it. I have lived in some cities with some pretty bad drivers, Windsor and Toronto to name a few but I have never seen it so bad as it is here in Halifax. I have lost count at how many times drivers do not follow the lights and just drive around corners or even through reds. The walk signal is always there and yet I am having to dodge cars or trucks. Nine times out of ten they are not paying attention or on their fancy little celly. In Ontario is was more about agressive drivers trying to squeak into spaces they could not get and a lot of crazy passing in the curb lanes. Lights and crosswalks however were pretty safe and the pedestrian kind of had some pull. Maybe because there are so many people walking or biking, I don't know but Halifax must have all kinds of walkers hit per year. It takes all of my restraint to kick or throw something at these drivers who just don't care about what is in front of them. I once had to yank Bosco back so hard I am sure he had some whip lash. Anyways that is my rant for this week. I hope to make this a weekly column in attempts to spice up the blog for those who are bored of the everyday.
Please comment and share your thoughts and opinions as well. Picture party and you are all invitedOk I have posted all the pictures Katie took from her trip out west. I heard all the back stories and her motivations for taking certain pics. I hope you like them. Do not worry, I have talked to Katie about it and she in fact does not have an obsession with bridges. March 28 Sheeeee's backWell the Rock cross Canada show returned last night to good ol Halifax in one piece and pretty happy to be home. A jet-lagged but smiley Katie came through the door just after 1030pm last night and she was a sight for sore eyes indeed!
I heard all the stories and just looked at all the pictures she took (Cuzoogle sent her with a camera) and it sounds like it was quite the adventure. I will post the pics in the coming days after I get all the back stories on each one from the journey girl.
The farm was certainly happy to see her, Bosco did not let Katie out of his sight all night and Mercy even though he does not show it too well was happy too.
I was very happy as well and it even worked out that she arrived after 24 and Prison Break were over haha. Talk about perfect timing.
Sadly Katie had to go back to work today, tired and road weary instead of sleeping all day at home. That is just how much of a trooper she is! Those Rocks are tough I tell ya.
As for me I just got up and am doing my normal morning thing. It looks like a nice day out there so I am going to go do the Bosco walk soon and think about what to do with my day. Maybe a walk downtown who knows.
That is about all for now. I hope you all have a good Tuesday. March 27 Charlie V for Vendetta
Charlie Villanueva's line from last night. A game like this and you earn your own blog posting!
48 pts, 9 rbs, 3 assists, 1 steal, 6-11 from 3, all in 46 minutes of playing time!
He be smooth Is it spring yet?Good morning and happy Monday to you all. I thought that it was spring but the temp out there is not agreeing so far. The sun is out and it looks like spring but it is still cold.
So what has been going on with me the last few days you must be wondering? Not too much other than watching a lot of basketball and naps. I finished working yesterday morning and managed to stay up til around 1pm. Had a nap and was awake in time to watch college basketball. The first game was amazing. The big upset of the mighty Uconn Huskies! In a tournament of so many great games this was by far the best and most exciting! I could not sit down for the last few minutes and overtime. I mean I lost my chanp in the pool but who cares because you hardly see upsets that big ever. How can you not pull for George Mason now!
During the short break between games I ran over to Fries and Co. and got some dinner. So tasty! Then I flipped back and forth between the TPC, Raptors and the Nova game. I do not ususally watch golf but when a Canuck is about to win you just have to. It is always great to listen to the US broadcasters talk about Canada like it is in the dark ages and where did they ever find a set of clubs. The Raps lost and Bosh got hurt but Charlie V stepped up with 48 points! The most by a raptor since the cry baby did it back in 2000. I found it funny that on one channel UConn is losing and on the other a former UConn player (who could still be there) was putting up huge numbers.
For the rest of the night I napped, watched a bit of Madagascar and saw the end of the Pistons game. I went to bed and read for a bit before crashing and having a great sleep.
The book I picked up and am reading now is called Love Monkey. There is a TV show on CBS loosely based on this book and since I did not mind the show I thought I would give the book a try. It is good so far, pretty funny and my kind of writing.
Here is a synopsis from chapters.
Bridget Jones meets her match in a hip, sexy urban novel with the soul of High Fidelity. Tom Farrell, who writes headlines for the New York Tabloid (""America’s loudest newspaper"") is a typical Manhattan single guy -- chronologically, he’s thirty-two, but mentally, he’s stuck at thirteen. He enthusiastically devotes himself to his two favorite pastimes, sports and girls, until he encounters a beautiful, bookish coworker named Julia. After a few torrid dates, he’s hooked -- Julia is ""like cleaning behind my refrigerator. A once-in-a-lifetime thing."" Julia, though, proves elusive, and Tom merrily pursues other girls, including his smart, sarcastic ""default date,"" Bran. Meanwhile, his even less evolved best friend, Shooter, a shallow sexual gladiator, urges him to treat all women like a hostile power. But when tragedy strikes, Tom begins to see life and love in a new light. This P.S. edition features an extra 16 pages of insights into the book, including author interviews, recommended reading, and more.
24 and PB are back on tonight so I am looking forward to that! Should be interesting because Katie is due to arrive home somewhere during one of those shows. I am going to be forced to choose watching or greeting!! Oh for the love of God why must I choose! haha.
Anyways everyone take a breath after a weekend of crazy basketball and have a super day.
Getting paid to watch the MadnessI was getting paid to watch most of the great madness on the weekend but there are a lot of you who don't. Here is an interesting article about those who are supposed to be working but who also want to follow cindarella's run to the finals.
By the way if there is anyone out there who has the final four brackets right, please let me know. You should be as famous as Rainman.
![]() March 25 Sunny Saturdayrandom thoughts as I sit here at 734 am at work.
The NCAA tourney is crazy this year, maybe some of
the best games I can remember. The old adage of well you just have to tune in
for the last five minutes is starting to return.
I am losing to Jackson!
Oatmeal, Banana bars are good.
Twelve hockey games tonight, how do I know this?? I
just did twelve previews! Man those take a long time.
I am thinking about going to see V for Vendetta
tomorrow. A nice little Sunday treat for me!
Oh this sunny weather gets my into a spring mood,
doing stuff in the garden etc. A bbq and car may be in the future of the Kline
Street family. I know at least half of you just rolled your eyes but it is
true.
Katie is back in two days! How have I
managed!
Gonna go to Chapters tonight and pick up book, do
not know what one yet but that is the fun of going.
Read a review in the paper about Deco BBQ on Spring
Garden rd. I think I will have to go but the review did not give it glowing
marks. I bet it is not as good as Phil's in Toronto although the one thing the
guy praised was the baked beans (you catch that JPR? we have to go next time you
are in town)
On my fourth cup of tea of the shift.
my best headline of the night. Ducks Unlimited: Anaheim plays over total
ok my mind is running on low, must save the fuel to
get home.
March 24 madnesswhat a crazy night of college basketball!! Three of
the games went right down to the end and two of them right down to the last
seconds. I picked three of them and I thought I had the fourth in the bag until
Gonzaga blew it. I had an eye on third place in the rock pool. Will have to
settle for fourth for now. Tonight we get more games too!
I am at work, 40 minutes to go and funny enough I
feel awake now. The sun comes up and beams into my window and I feel
reengergized. I am sure I will crash once I get home.
That is about it for now. The Katie world tour is
going well. She told me about her giant bed and cool looking hotel. I am sure
she is getting some serious points with all this travel. Maybe we can both go on
a real trip one day, haha yeah right.
anyways have a good day, I will be sleeping soundly
as you read this.
March 23 A bunch of stuffWell it is Thursday and I finally have a moment or two to get some words into this blog. I have a lot of stuff on the brain so pardon me if everything is random and all over the place.
Did anyone else read about that guy in the US who shot a kid because he would not stop cutting across his lawn?? If that is not enough reason to get tougher on gun laws I dont know what is. I mean growing up my Dad was proud and protective of his lawn but come on!
I have only heard one review of V for Vendetta so far, anyone else seen it yet?
I am surviving just fine with Katie on the King's road trip. I mean I have been working so time is just flying by. She is doing well other than very jet lagged and not sure where she is! Today she is in Vancouver and who knows where she will be next! Ha ha I know, she is going to the island next to visit her brother for the weekend.
Bosco seems to be enjoying his diet but then again he does not talk so maybe I am misreading him.
Just watched the third episode of The Unit, its not bad, pretty impressive for a TV show actually. It is like a little movie each week. Downloading TV shows has certainly made it easier to keep up with many shows and the lack of commercials is great. I have Lost downloading right now. I could of watched it last night but again, the idea of now commercials is hard to pass up.
Just when I thought spring was here, it snowed over night. Nothing major but it sucked to wake up to white ground again. I keep thinking about bbq's and getting my bike out and winter keeps telling me to slow down.
I start nights tonight, three this time until I am off again. It won't be too bad, I get to go to work and watch all the college ball. Does anyone else agree that the days between the first weekend and the sweet sixteen seem longer?? It is even more exciting this year because the two pools I am in, I am doing well. Then again after tonight I could be in last, that is just how crazy it is. Have faith in the moustache is what I say.
Not too much to do today, tidy up and bit and just relax and have a nap later. Bosco is eager to go for a walk so I think that is what I will do next. I don't really have to tidy too much, Katie is not back until Monday!
I am enjoying reading all the new blogs that friends have been starting lately. It is nice to be a reader and not just a writer for everyone. Keep up the good work. Even the trash talk in the Rock pool is turning into a bit of a blog.
Friend updates. Tony is back traveling for work, he is in Korea for a bit. Baker got a new job at Alliance Atlantis doing similar work and starts in a few weeks. I know the joy of getting out of Corus so I am happy for him. Lindsay takes ownership of her condo in about three weeks so that is exciting news as well. The Porco's are starting their own business in the SOO, a designer furniture store I believe it is. I wonder if they deliver? There is a lot of other updates on people but they are not that exciting so I will leave it at that.
Wow this was a long entry today I better wrap it up so you can all get back to your lives. Have a great day and keep the comments and emails coming, it gives me something to read at work other than sports.
March 21 The Big Boss-manSo I went to the vet yesterday, finally got Bosco
into one since we moved in October. It is just down the street and it is brand
new so thats all good. The Doc was nice and really liked Bosco, she has a lab of
her own.
So the verdict is in, Bosco is a bit fat! I had no
idea to be honest, he looks fit and gets lots of exercise. He is up to 99lbs
from 84lbs the last time he was checked up in Toronto.
So he is on special diet food and the vet wants him
to get back down in the 80's. I am sure with the nicer weather approaching he
will get even more exercise and walks.
What we need to do is find somewhere for him to
swim and turn into a duck again! Maybe if we in fact get a car one day we can
scope out a place or two.
Other than that Bosco is healthy and well, his
eyes, ears and mouth are top notch and he is a happy, typical lab.
Heavenly!check out these new jerseys. This guy will never get traded.

Post-Madness MondayGood day, it is the Monday after the madness and the world is still standing. More importantly I am still in the pools and have an chance to do well. Four days of buzzer beaters and tense action later I still have seven of my eight final teams remaining and I feel pretty good. This time last year I was already out of the running so at least I am improving.
As it seems to happen every year, the tournament becomes more and more unpredicatable and the teams you have never heard of seem to go further and further. How many people have the Big Ten being totally gone and Wichita State and Bradley still alive?? Come on if you did please email me because I would like to know you.
A funny tidbit that a sportscaster mentioned last night. When Pittsburgh and Bradley were playing, the scoreboard read Brad Pitt. Silly but funny.
In other news, Katie left this morning for Calgary. It will be a long week without her and it will be very nice when she gets back. I will miss her for obvious reasons but I almost think Bosco will miss her more since he will have a full week of being alone all day long. Poor guy!
I am not sure how cold it is yet but it looks so sunny and nice outside. I am going to go on the Bosco walk in a sec.
Tody I am just going to take care of all the stuff I need to do before the work week starts tomorrow. Tonight is the first night of Prison Break and 24 back to back. Four days of ball and now I am going to subject my heart to that tense action!
Anyways that is all for now. I hope you all have a great Monday. The review is inThis nice review was sent to us about a recent stay at The Hotel Kline. For everyone planning on visiting, you should take a read.

This hotel is great! The staff is friendly and attentive - always a drink in hand or good food on the table. Ask for the Guinness Cheese and the Fried Blue Cheese salad. Magnifique!
Added bonuses: free parking and wireless internet! The house music will get you jumping in the morning, affordable breakfast with Ceasars at the Moustache is yummy, and endless basketball is a relaxing way to spend any Saturday.

![]() March 19 Lind-say say sayWell it is Sunday so it must be time to catch up on some blog. First off, it is Kevin's birthday today so a happy birthday to you!! 32 years young for the good doctor.
My friend Lindsay was in town this weekend after doing some PR work on Friday. It was a great visit, drank and ate well and caught up on stuff. She left early this morning so I hope the flight went well and everything.
We went out Friday night for St. Pattys day to The Fireside and to our glee, they had six dollar martinis. So we drank well haha.
Yesterday we did the downtown brunch thing and walked around Spring Garden Road. We picked up some food and cooked up a tasty dinner last night while enjoying some brewtender and wine.
There are pics of the weekend posted too.
I am sure Lindsay will write a glowing review of Hotel Kline, so for all of you planning on visiting, you better book soon!
Today Katie and I are just taking it easy. She leaves tomorrow for a week. She is off to Vancouver and Calgary for work, so it is a man week again. Bosco, Mercy and me, livin large!
Has anyone seen V for Vendetta yet?? I would like to hear some feedback before going.
anyway that is all for now, I think there is some basketball on today haha. By the way I have climbed the ladder to the 18th spot!! woo hoo.
have a great Sunday all. March SadnessWell day one is complete and I just checked my bracket as my eyes are barely open and what do you know, I am in last! How could this be, I could not of had more info and stats put in my head if I had a bracket IV drip in my arm. For weeks at work it has been tourney hype, expert opinions, knowing who is injured and playing well. All for this?? Maybe I get a little upset happy with my picks, maybe I align myself with teams that used to do well? Who knows. Maybe that is what makes the NCAA tourney so great and special. There is no method to the madness and that is why they play the games. Tennessee and Gonzaga almost sent a lot of people drinking but they pulled out wins, who would of thought that. I hope for a better day today but looking at my brackets, I have #2 Ohio State going out, yeah that is going to happen, what was I thinking! Anyways it is fun and there is no better bball on ever. So I am going to enjoy it and not think about my last place standing in the Rock Pool. The smile it brings to my face to hear Katie yelling at the tv as I am in the kitchen is great. She has the madness and it is genuine for sure! Jesse when she is out visiting you guys you better not watch a game in public or you may get kicked out. ![]() Happy St Pattys day everyone, I am sure some of you read this with a frosty mug of green ale. Cheers. March 16 the 622am happsWell as you already know, its 622am here in Halifax
and I am working. I have the headphones on and the tunes going to keep me awake.
The sun is just starting to come up and people everywhere are getting the day
going.
I am done in less that 3 hours and then its 5 days
off for me. Holy crap that will be great. Payday yesterday, spring like weather,
st. pattys day, march madness, Lindsay is in town and of course a lot of time to
see Katie. Now thats a nice stretch of time eh.
Other things I hope to get done are as
follows:
taxes, book Boss at the vet, laundry, groceries,
get beer, job hunt (yes I never stop), relax, watch movies and love life! If the
weather is really nice it will be hard to resist going to get a
bbq!!
I had the sad realization just a short time ago
that I have to wait an extra hour for March Madness to begin, jeeez no watching
the games with my lunch I guess. I am in two pools, work and the
rocks.
well it is now 627 am and I should get back to
work. I was chatting with the guys in Ireland who work on the UK Covers and they
get the day off tomorrow to get pissed. Now thats a country with the right idea
for a holiday.
Early happy ST Pattys day to everyone with a wee
bit of Irish in ya.
