May 31 Another sunny onePretending to block out the last post.............good day everyone , how is it going?
It is another bright and sunny day in Halifax, cool breeze but getting warmer as the morning goes on.
Before I get into the news I wanted to pass along a thanks to one of my biggest and most loyal readers. I keep hearing how she reads daily and loves to talk about the blog to others and I think that is great. I of course am talking about Shirley Holmes, the mother of Kev.
Now back to the news. Yesterday was another relaxing day over on Kline, I did some yard stuff, the long Bosco walk as mentioned and watched Glory Road. It was very much Remember the Titans, the basketball version I thought. Later in the afternoon I walked down to Kings to meet Katie. This is where the unfortunate event happened (freeeeezing) but I did not let it bug me at this point. Katie and I walked downtown to hunt out a patio. We ended up at Soho Bar and Grill, a nice little place with a patio that was not busy so that was perfect. We had a drink and some apps and soaked up the Halifax air.
Next we walked over to the movie theatre to see Poseidon Adventure. It was exactly what I was expecting, a good popcorn flick with lots of action and stuff going wrong. I did laugh at the rogue wave thing and we did want to know how life was once they got back to land but oh well. I kind of felt it should of been Dennis Quaid more so than Kurt Russel for some reason.
Once home that is where the IPOD obsessive stuff started and thats where I will end this blog fest for today.
The sun is out and I am on my last day off of the week so I am going to get out and enjoy it.
Welcome to June soon and I hope my parents get away as planned in the next few days.
have a good one. Apple that needs a doctorWell I would like to say it is a good morning but last night something sad happened (don't worry it is not that bad!) My good friend, the Ipod froze, died, gave up, went ka-put, whatever you want to call it. I got the sad face that I have only heard of but never thought I would see. It just quit and now nothing I do will bring it back. I have read online tips and forums since and nothing is working.
Here is what my account is and what I am posting everywhere I can in hopes that there is a cure.
4th gen ipod, 40 G had for 17 months.
for the last few months the click wheel has been a bit unmanagable but I have dealt with it and everything else worked fine. I have never dropped or been abusive with my ipod and even keep it in a case.
It froze yesterday, displaying the current song and I could not restart, turn off or reset it with any of the buttons that I know how to do.
SO I left it. Finally it shut off and when I got home I figured I would just put it in the cradle or plug it into the computer and all would be happy again.
NOpe, the apple logo would appear and then a sad face. There was no little beep either once put in the cradle. So I went to plug it in the computer USB style. Nothing........just apple logo, sad face and then half a recharge sign. It was not showing up on the computer so there was no way to reinstall, wipe clean or do any of the other things various sites suggest.
So there is an apple sign, then sad, then half a recharge bar but it is not connected to the computer.
that is where it stands now. I am pretty much convinced it is toast unless I shell out big bucks to get it fixed. I have read various posts about cracking it open but I am not really big on that idea.
any suggestions?
-----------------------------------
So that is my day so far, trying not to obsess about fixing the little guy when I really don't know what to do. I am going to try to leave it alone and maybe something magical will happen later.
The bright side is that all of my music (all 32 Gigs of it) is still safe and sound on my computer. I may of had a rubber room break down if I had lost it all.
Ok let me start a new post about happy things.
May 30 The Bosco adventureJust went on a long, sunny dog walk today. The weather is great, breezy 25 celcius. I here the folks over in Ontario are struggling with a 30 Celcius day. Hello June!
I added a bunch of photos with the theme of getting my parents excited to make the trip on Friday. I know they will be happy to get out of the humidity for sure!
Not much else going on, pretty typical day over here on Kline. Katie is working and I am at home relaxing and doing whatever. We are going to meet up later for some patio fun or maybe a movie.
All I can say about the Pistons is they are frustrating me and I hope they are gone soon (will be).
We had some kabobs last night that you can check out on the Tales blog.
I am going to go have some lunch but I hope you all have a good day.
----------------- updated blogs May 29 Toronto photo blogMonday MondayWhat a great day in the Fax, sun is shining and there is a cool breeze that is nice in the window as you wake up. The best part is I am off! I am up just taking care of the blogs so you all know what is going on.
Just did up the chocolate dog blog and tales from the grill so please check those out when you can.
Katie woke me up today with news of a TTC strike in Toronto, man I can just imagine the mess that caused. I would of been riding anyways but the city must be crazy. I guess the small complaints I have about the Halifax transit is not so bad.
Yesterday we had the crock pot chili I was talking about and it was very good. We added some cheese and some tasty rolls making it a feast of kings (and queens) on Kline. After dinner Katie baked up some chocolate cookies for a sweet dessert. There are so many left but I am sure we will take care of them in no time.
Last night we watched The Constant Gardener. Very good flick with a lot of real current events being portrayed. It certainly makes you think.
Suns and Nash lost, hope the Pistons can bounce back tonight.
The outlook for today is not too busy. I do not have a lot I need to do so I have a lot of free time.
There are so ka bobs ready for grilling tonight so that will be tasty.
Bosco is giving me the eye, I guess he wants to get out into the world on such a nice day.
My parents are still on course for leaving on Friday for their big trek out ot the east coast. They are figuring a five day trip so maybe the end of next week they will get here. That will be a lot of fun. The blog will certainly have a lot of news to pass on then.
Okay I am done, have a great day.
----------------- updated blogs A reason not to be in Toronto todayManagement calls it an illegal strike.
The union calls it a lockout. And hundreds of thousands of commuters call it a major disaster. T.T.C. workers made good on their weekend threat Monday, shutting down the entire system at 5am.
The strike couldn’t come at a worse time. There was little notice for riders who didn’t hear about the impending dispute over the weekend. It’s been difficult to hail a cab in the city as the morning rush heats up, and they’re doing landmark business. The walkout comes on the city’s first ‘spare the air day’ of the summer. Sweltering temperatures in the upper 20s and humidity levels in the 30s are expected, swelling pollution levels across the G.T.A., even as more cars are forced to hit the road. And in an irony of timing lost on few, Monday also marks the beginning of bike week. It appears many more people will be taking part in that event than they expected. ![]() The Constant GardenerWell it is a perfect Sunday afternoon today in the Fax and as you can see by the fact that I am just getting to blogging that it has been a busy day. Before I get to that lets do a Saturday wrap up!
Once I was home from work and Katie was up and at em, we headed over to Janes on the Common for a nice brunch. It is this nice little place across the street from the commons that is a bit upscale but still very nice. Katie proclaimed it as her treat for 4 weeks from not smoking. How can you argue with that, it has been great!
We ate and chatted and had a good ol time. Next we walked over to Sobeys for some grocery shopping. Picked up a lot of good stuff for dinners and such. We planned to pick up some steak and bbq for dinner. In the end that is what we did and it was tasty with a side spinach salad.
We spent a little time in the backyard cleaning it up, I took care of the grass and we planted some lavender as well. Katie read the paper and Bosco just did his laying down thing for a bit. I started to pick some dandilions but had one of those I am becoming my parents moments and stopped.
I was pretty tired from coming off my night shift so I was nappy and such all day and finally crashed as we tried to watch a movie late in the afternoon. I did have to rest up for the Pistons game at night. Turns out it was a crappy game and the Pistons lost but whatever, its not over yet. At least the Oilers moved on to the Stanley Cup!
Ok that wraps up the day, moving on to today!
Just as an aside I am sipping an icey cool beverage of coke, Soco and Ameretto. Tasty!
Ok I was up early and cooking, prepped a crock pot chili for tonight's dinner. Man the house smells so good right now.
After the crock was rockin I did a full on kitchen clean before Katie got up, it is shiny and fresh in there. We hung the bedding and towels out on the line today too since it is so nice.
After getting ready and stuff we packed up Bosco and went for a walk to the Commons. A lot of people out playing various things and a lot of people tanning as well. I took some pictures so check those out.
Now we are back having a nice and relaxing Sunday afternoon.
Ok, feel better that you are all caught up??
Feel free to check out Angela's blog to see how her trip to Boston went, sounds like they may move there soon.
Ok it has been swell, have a good one.
----------------- updated blogs May 27 Sweet weekend feeling!Just got home after finishing this set of work days and now I am off for five glorious days. It is the best feeling when you get home and the world seems at peace! What better way to start the stretch than to get a blog in.
I took my camera to work last night to take some pictures so you can all see where I work. So check those out in a sec.
Not much to pass along that has been going on. Katie and I are going to go out for breakfast a bit later and then just enjoy a nice day. It is pretty wet and dreary out there but tomorrow it is supposed to be amazing.
I hope it is like the other day when I hung out some laundry!
June is almost here and I can hear 32 coming around the corner, wow 32! Well at least I am not my sister, turning 30! That may be hard on her haha.
my brain is not working so I am just going to post the work pictures and blog later.
May 25 Sunny dayWell it is Thursday and I am on my transition day so that means I have some time to blog. The sun is shining and it looks like one of the best days we have had so far.
Not a whole lot in the news from the last few days. Work has been going well and it is much more enjoyable as the weeks go by. The only thing I guess bothering me these days is the play of the Pistons, I just wish they could get their act together. We will see tonight I guess.
Life on Kline is rolling along and we are looking forward to fun summer days in the backyard and around town. Katie is coming up on four weeks since she started quitting smoking and is doing awesome as I know it is hard for her.
Bosco is the same ol' guy and is enjoying spending more time outside. He has really taken a liking to Katie and Mercy so that is good for a happy home. He is currently staring at me with that face of are we going for a walk yet or what.
Only a few weeks until my parents visit so I know Bosco will really like having visitors in the house!
Angela recently went to Boston to visit a friend and to check out the city. I think Kev and her have made the big decision to look for work there. SO I am sure there will be a write up on her blog soon enough.
Televsion season finally ended last night with the big finale of Lost. It was way to off the wall for me and I really wasn't left wondering as much as normal. The story has certainly gone off on another tangent. Here is my theory. The show is actually an experiement and they want to see if we will keep watching no matter what they put on the air! haha.
24 was a good ending and now it is time to catch up on other series I have been downloading and catching up on books and movies that have been piling up.
Anyone seen the Da Vinci code and liked it??
That is about it for now, time to get out in the sun.
May 24 Seeing how I did?here is the post I made before the NBA season started.
1. Who will be the MVP this season?
CUZZY: Lebron James
Ian Thomsen: Bryant -- He'll singlehandedly keep the Lakers in playoff contention.
2. What team will be the biggest surprise this season?
CUZZY: I think Sacramento will suprise people and get back to one of the elites in the west.
Ballard: Cleveland Cavaliers -- For the first year at least, the chemistry of Mike Brown, 'Bron, Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall and Drew Gooden should be impressive.
3. What team will be the biggest disappointment this season?
CUZZY: Phoenix, no amare, no chance.......
Mannix: Houston Rockets -- Much is expected in Year 2 of McGrady/Yao, but new point guard Rafer Alston and coach Jeff Van Gundy are like oil and water.
4. What player will breakout and become a star this season?
CUZZY: Josh Howard on Dallas.....every year I think he is going to be huge so I will say it again.
Ballard: Dwight Howard, Magic -- Ridiculously athletic, he'll actually touch the ball in the post this season. Expect 20 and 12.
5. Who will be the league's best rookie?
CUZZY: I really want to say Joey Graham but I do not think he will get the PT or the pub. in Toronto. So I will say Raymond Felton.
Thomsen: Indiana's Granger will contribute to a contender, but Paul will run away with rookie of the year.
6. Who is on the hottest seat this season?
CUZZY: Babcock for sure. Even if Charlie plays well, the Hoffa mistake will still be looming.
Burns: Rob Babcock, Raptors GM -- After drafting Rafael Araujo and trading Carter, the second-year executive doesn't have a lot of support right now from Toronto fans. If his hand-picked coach Sam Mitchell struggles, and Charlie Villanueva doesn't pan out, he could take the fall.
7. What will be this year's biggest controversy?
CUZZY: Larry Brown quits when he realizes he does not have the Wallace boys on his team anymore
McCallum: The referees claim that -- hold on to your hats -- calling more traveling is going to become a point of emphasis. In particular, they're looking to take the hop followed by the two steps out of the game. If they really enforce that, you're going to hear some whining from a lot of players, New Jersey's Vince Carter in particular.
8. Who will be the biggest name to be traded?
CUZZY: KG for sure, he will kill someone if that team does not do well.
McCallum: Jalen Rose, Raptors. Why? I have no idea. But Toronto has to do something to get noticed way up there.
9. Who will be the NBA's Final Four (and champion) in the playoffs?
CUZZY: Indiana/Detroit/Dallas/San Antonio champ is San Antonio
Thomsen: San Antonio over Phoenix; Miami over Indiana. And Miami for the championship.
10. Will Ron Artest make it through the entire season without being suspended again?
CUZZY: no he will do something stupid around Christmas like take time off to sell records.
McCallum: No. I hope he does, but, with the eyes of the league office and the media upon him, something is bound to happen. Raptor feverThe Purple fever is back now the Raptors won the lottery lastnight. Who will they pick?? I have a good vibe about things. Yesterday afternoon I told a few people that I felt the Raptors were going to win the lottery! The draft is on my birthday, how good can this get!
![]() Monday that feels like SundayHappy Victoria day everyone, I hope you all are doing something fun and relaxing and not working. I have the day off and it feels a lot like Sunday. The sun run finally ended and it is raining but I have to say I am pretty happy that the sun was out all weekend.
Yesterday was a nice and relaxing day and it felt a lot like being at a cottage haha.
After a light breakfast I took Bosco for a walk and got him all tired out for the day. Then I came back and went on a bike ride, a 30 minute trek around the Arm. I have to say Halifax is a lot more hilly than I am used to and I got quite the work out. Katie was laughing at me at how tired I was. Oh well it was the first real ride of the year and I will get back in shape soon.
I cleaned up and did a few chores and then settled in to watch the Pistons game. It was a huge Game 7 and although I was a bit nervous and tense there was no real need to be. Even though it took them til the third to pull away the Pistons were very much in control most of the game. Next up the Miami Heat, now that will be a war.
Once the game was over it was time to fire up the grill. BBQ chicken night! For more see Tails From the Grill. It was a tasty feast that for the second night in a row, left us feeling very happy and full.
It was a cool night (long weekend, cottage like) so we closed all the windows and relaxed after a nice day by catching up on some TV finales we had missed.
All in all it was a classic Sunday. Now today we can do it all over again!
I would like to say Happy Birthday to Jamie (JPR) and wish him a day of basement tv, computer games and tasty food.
That is all for now, have a good day everyone.
----------------- updated blogs May 21 Lazy SundayWell it is here, lazy Sunday! The middle day of the long weekend festival! There is not much sun out there but thats ok because it is not really important to do much today. Everything is closed and all the running around was done yesterday.
Speaking of yesterday, we did quite a lot, well at least that is what our feet were saying last night. We went and looked at cars at the various used lots and got a much better idea at what we want and can afford. So that could all happen very soon. We hit the Sobey for some grocery shopping and got a lot of good eats. The weather was great so it was my first shorts day of the year!
Once home I went for a quick bike ride to the liquor store for some weekend beer and ceasars for Katie. I had a rest and watched the end of the hockey game and then it was outside to cut the grass. The backyard looks very nice and tidy now!
Then it was on to dinner. We had some steak and picked up some steak rub to try out. I highly recommend this as it made the meat taste so good. For for on this dinner please check out Tales From The Grill.
After eating so much food, it was time for Katie to have a small nap. As you can see from the pics, the farm joined her.
Then we topped off the night watching History of Violence. Very creepy movie and it had you wondering where it was going the whole time.
Long day indeed, my feet still are a little sore.
The big event of the day will be Game 7 of the Pistons/Cavs later on. I am pretty worried but not as worried as I was for Game 6. The Pistons pulled it out and I do feel they will win today.
I hope you all have a great lazy Sunday as well.
Check out all the pics too, I have been posting a lot lately so maybe you missed some.

----------------- updated blogs May 17 Da Vinci joke? The reviews are starting to come in on the Da Vinci code that opens up on Friday. They are not sounding so hot so far. Here are a few I have read.
May 16 Catching upWell the good ship Cuzoogle is heading forward into a new week and uncharted waters. I have been working the last few days so there has not been alot of blogging time. I am trying to preoccupy myself as a few season finales download from lastnight. I did catch 24 and it is building up to a good finish next week.
In other TV news, on Sunday night Survivor came to an end and so did the big dinner bet with Katie. Both of our people made the final four show so the drama was there........in the end my girl Danielle outlasted Terry and I officially won a dinner whereever I would like. It was a good fight to the end that is for sure.
Can you believe the Pistons lost lastnight!
The weather has been great the last few days, of course since I was working. Now the rest of the week looks like dull an rainy which is ok for my overnights. I just hope it picks up before the long weekend.
My parents have their trip pretty much planned and they head for the coast on June 2. It will be fun to have them out here for a few weeks!
That is all I can think of for now, back to watching my downloads!
May 13 My MumWell it is mothers day and since I am working all day and won't have a chance to call til late I figured I would blog about my wonderful mum. I rarely do the card thing anymore either so what better way to tell my mum how important and special she is than on the good ol' internet where everyone can read it.
For all who know me and who have met my mother, they know that we are a very similar pair. Same sensitivities, same sense of humour and same enjoyment of doing things for those who matter to us.
I like to tidy up when people are coming over and I like to put the kettle on and I know I get those from my mother.
She has always been there for me and supported me and been a great second mother to friends over the years. She just likes to make people happy and as simple as it sounds, there are not a lot out there that geniune in that regard.
When times have been down and money has been tight, she has been there even if it meant going without for herself. I know there have been so many times where she could treat herself or buy something she would want but instead she gave the cash to my sister or I. It is much appreciated.
I know it has been hard since I have moved even further away than I was and I do not get to see her very much but I am looking forward to the trip you guys are making soon.
I remember the grilled cheese sandwiches and the cups of tea and all the times you put off watching your soap so I could watch what I wanted. All the times I would take the book mark out of your book for fun and you just played along instead of getting annoyed.
Always trying to be the calming force in any situation I would like to think I picked up some of that from my mother.
So even though I cannot be there to celebrate the day and even though I will be working away all day, I will be thinking of my mum and hoping she is having a great day of 10 minute naps and time to put her feet up on the couch. I would put the kettle on if I could.
love ya Mum......would not of had it any other way.......
Happy Mothers Day! from your son
Jets OverheadLast night as I mention yesterday, Katie and I went to see Jets Overhead. They were one of the opening bands for Our Lady Peace here in Halifax and it was all very exciting since we were on the guest list.
We cabbed down to the Metro Centre and walked around looking for the box office. We first went to a door where they were letting people in and Katie said there were tickets being held for her and the older man at the door played along and asked oh yes we do, who are you? We were directed around the corner to the box office, went in and found the ticket window. It all went very smoothly, a proof of ID and there were two tickets in an envelope for us. Sweet we were in.
We found our seats very quick and the first act was just finishing up. We were sitting about 15 rows up off to the side of the stage. It was a new vantage point for me, we could see behind the stage and the audio mixer doing his thing.
As the act was finishing up, some of the Jets started coming out, waiting and setting up. Katie of course recognized them since she has met them before and starting yelling out names and hooting and woooing pretty loud. First we saw Evan, the bands do everything, get everything, faithful driver/merch dude! He is a friend of Katie's brother who is touring with the band. He waved etc and then Katie got the attention of Adam, the lead singer and he seemed very disappointed at our seats and tried to wave us closer. We were fine and did not move and did not want them to worry about it.
7:30 hit and they started, it sounded great and they quickly got the crowd into it. They played a handful of songs and the place was pretty rockin. I had listened to their stuff all day Friday to get prepped and it sounded very good live as well. Evan was able to come up to where we were sitting during the show and talked with Katie and let us know where to meet them afterwards.
So once they were done we waited for a bit and then headed out to the lobby or waiting area I guess it would be called. We met the guys over at the merch. table where fans were meeting with them and having autographs signed. I met the guys and Katie caught up with Adam for a bit. They went to chill out and we waitied and had a drink until they came back with some passes to go backstage.
We looked around and had a drink and chatted about the show and then the call came. We met Adam again and got our passes to go backstage. It is not exactly glamour but it was cool to see the under world of the building.
We got out of the elevator and first thing we saw was this huge, shiny tour bus. Katie was like, is that your bus. Evan pointed next to it in the corner to a small van with a trailer and said, no that is our bus!
We waded around busses and down halls and walked past the two main guys of the band Neverending White Light (creepy) and finally were in the bands dressing room. It was just a locker room with a craft table set up with iced drinks and beer. We had a drink and hung out and chatted with the band. I talked more with Adam and met Piers, Luke, Jocelyn and Antonia. It was pretty fun to hang out back there and see that even though they are up and coming rockers, they are pretty much the same as everyone else.
Finally we decided to call it a night and did the goodbyes and left as OLP was finishing up. They sounded pretty good and certainly had the crowd going.
Grabbed a cab and we were home in no time. That was our Halifax Friday night with Jets Overhead. I would love to see them again and I bet they will be back on the east coast soon. They are playing the Horseshoe in Toronto for North by Northeast so if you are in town you should check them out on June 8th.
That is all for now. I added a pic of the backstage pass (red) and ticket for last night.
