June 30 Friday FridayGood day one and all how is it going? Just a normal Friday over here and what do you know, it is raining. It has seemed that it has rained for most of June. Maybe July will bring the sun and fun!
Not much going on at Kline St. It is my transition day so I start work tonight and sadly won't be up for any Canada day fun tomorrow. I will have to fit in watching the England game at some point tho. Go boys!
Not much feels different about being 32 expcept saying you are 32 sounds a lot older than 31 for some reason.
Bosco is being patient but I know he is excited to get out and go for a walk, he was home alone most of the day yesterday and needs to make up for that.
My parents made it home on Wednesday night and I am sure they are still resting and reflecting on a fun trip. It was a long drive and Im sure it will take some time to recover.
Was talking to Tony on msn last night, he is doing well and is very busy over in Korea. We were reflecting on the chill days of Bloor St and Tony really misses how laid back it was. He wants to move back to High Park one day and get his own dog.
The World Cup starts up again today so I know Jamie and Casey will be peddling to a local watering hole to report on all the action.
That is all I can really think of for now.
Halifax is having some big debates over Round Abouts and Sunday shopping so it is always entertaining out here.
Have a good day and see you in July.
June 28 Mexi-cuzzy Rosa'sLast night Katie took me out for dinner at Mexi Cali Rosa's on Springgarden road. See the pics for all the action and our very large helpings of food. We ordered some apps and talked and sipped our boozy drinks. I had sangria and Katie had a DaCK-ery.
Once the pre bites were over it was time for the main course. But before I tell you about that lets pull a J.J. Abrams tactic and flashback before what I am going to tell you.
So I met Katie at school, for the last time (sigh) and we walked downtown. We ran into people we knew every five minutes like we were in small town Canada. We then hit the trendy new Star Bucks so Katie could pick up some coffee for home. A new kind all freshly ground up for hours of sipping. We then cut through the Public Gardens and we entered prom land.
All the high schoolys from whatever school where all there getting pre-prom pictures. Lots of cheesy dresses and tuxed up dudes. I saw in the paper they went on to ride the hippo tour bus around the city afterwards.
Ok now we are back to the resto getting the main course. I ordered the Mexican Flag and hopefully you can see from the pic why it was called that. Katie ordered some big ass taco kind of dinner which by the way I just finished for a day after kind of work lunch! NACHO LIBRE!
I must say we stuffed ourselves pretty good and it hurt to breath. So what did we do, we ordered deep fried ice cream haha. That was good too and it put my tummy in critical space issues. Like a harddrive running out of space for all my mp3s.
On a side story, the two girls, we will call them QuigleyA and QuigleyB, told their whole life story to each other and very loudly I might add. Honest to god this actually happened.
Katie did one of those head turn looks as if to say wow you are loud. The one girl noticed and they actually talked about it as if we could not hear it. Just felt like saying, we can still hear you! Ok they finally left and we could talk once again haha. I know Katie wanted to be a little more confrontational about it but it all went away.
We settled up and rolled out of there as full as full can be. Happy birthday to me!!
A nice walk home and it was time to call it an evening. A little Huff on the teley and it was snooze time.
June 27 BackyardigansOut back man
So yesterday the rain finally stopped and the sun actually came out so we took the chance to eat outside on our new table. The meal was bbq'd burgers, corn cooked on the side burner and some sweet potato fries.
It was really nice sitting back there and I know we will be doing it a lot more. Check out the pictures.
Ukraine in the membrain
Got to see the first shoot out of this World Cup. The Swiss melted under the pressure and their must of been quite the party on Bloor W yesterday.
Hair be gone
Going to go for my last hair cut as a 31-year old today. Exciting stuff!
Who with the Raps pick??
The Raptors have the #1 pick tomorrow night and here is my take. My hopes are they make some kind of big trade or they draft LeMarcus Aldridge. My thoughts are they are going to draft the 7-foot Italien dude. We shall see tomorrow.
Mex it up!
Going out for dinner tonight to Mexicali Rosa's......nothing like some good tex mex on a Tuesday night! If you are lucky there will be some pictures tomorrow.
Thats all for today
Ta-Tow!
----------------- updated blogs June 26 Kline Street news and notesNothing like a rainy Monday morning to catch everyone up on what they may of missed over the past week.
thats all I can think of for now.
June 25 Becks and PoshA couple shots from today's big win by England
In case you did not see it, England won 1-0 on a free kick goal by David Beckham. In other news, Victoria Beckham has the biggest sunglasses in the world. For all your World Cup fun please check out Jamie and Casey's daily Cup reports. BBQ Katie Rock styleLastnight we had some people over for a bbq and the real theme I think was to celebrate the end of a good run of Katie and Kings. It is not a time of sadness it is a time of upward and onward. What better way to celebrate that than having some of the people Katie has gotten to know and enjoy in her time on Coberg.
The weather was kind of crappy and we were bummed that the new patio furniture would not get broken in but the BBQ went on! People started showing up around 6:30 and the drinks were flowing shortly after.
Once enough people showed it was time for the grill to get going despite the rain! Burgers and hot dogs for everyone with all the fixings. Everyone were also excited to see the brewtender that Katie has talked up quite a bit I hear at work. So we had to get some batteries for it to do it up right! Pail certainly loved it and I am sure he is dreaming of his own one day.
It turned into your classic get together, sitting around, drinking and sharing stories. It was good to meet some more of Katie's friends and to see that she was well liked at her place of work.
Bosco loved the night because you know he loves new people! Even Mercy was social which is not a common thing.
Then the best part happened, it stopped raining and was dry enough to end the night sitting around the table out back and talking some more. It was a nice preview of what is to come throughout the coming months.
Thanks for coming everyone, it was a good time and I am sure there will be more. Of course there will be! On a day with no rain if that happens out here on the east coast.
Make sure to check out the pics, have a good one. June 23 Just CuzWell it has been a few days since I last posted so let me try and catch you up on all that is me.
I am currently at work, the night is not too busy so I am taking a quick break. Just watching the reply of the Americans losing today in soccer, talk about sweet!
Yesterday Katie and I went to the Tire to pick up some patio furniture. We figured how hard would it be to get it all home in a cab since there are vans. Well lets get back to that in a second. We picked out a pretty nice black table and 4 chairs, in pretty quick time which was nice. I will take pics of it soon and hopefully we will have a lot of good times around it. Well we called a cap and there was one van for the whole city, so they sent a regular cabbie. He pulled up and saw what we had and did not even think about it and left. Great. No cabs and we are standing outside with purchased stuff and wanting to be home.
So we decided to carry it. Katie carried the groceries we picked up and I carried the table and 4 chairs. Luckily it was in a box and was light but man it was awkward. My arms are still sore. I have to say it really adds to the garden. I have also been working on the garden and will have pictures to show soon.
That is really the only news I can think of. My parents are on their way home after having a great time on the Cabot Trail. They met some more interesting people, saw a whale and an eagle and spent all of their money. Time to get back to hot and muggy Ontario.
I am looking forward to the upcoming week for the following reasons:
Anyways have a good one everyone.
NBA Finals wrap upSo before the finals started I asked a number of you what your prediction was. For those who do not know, Miami won 4-2.
here is what you all said.
Cuzzy: Heat in 5, yes you heard it 5 games. Shaq is going to abuse the Mavs and D-wade is going to keep the crazy shooting going. I dont want the Heat to win, I cant stand Mourning getting a ring but they look like they have a killer instinct. I guess when it comes down to it, Riley is the biggest key.
Jamie Paul Rock: I have to say the Heat. D-Wade seems unstoppable, and Shaq got a look in
his eyes as the last series wore on that I found a little exciting. He seems ready to work. I know that's a small team--but those are two _historic_ players of the game. Kevin Holmes: I couldn't even tell you who is in the NBA finals....wait...let me look it up....okay, I pick the Heat because Gary Payton is my favourite ex sonic next to shawn kemp.
Al McCartney: Well of course I want the Mavs to win, and I think they can do it. Dunno if they will, but I definitely don't wanna see those idiots on the Heat winning the championship.
Eddie Hawkeswood: Dallas - life is fair, thus Alonzo Mourning won't win a championship.
Jackson Rock: Mavs in 7, I want them to win but I can see the Heat winning too. I hate the 2-3-2 format.
Poetikal: Dallas in six or 7 becuz Captain Dirk has been told by the hoop gods its his time, and Dalls is Due, Miami is just a Bought Phaze Team held together by a again bohemeth Shaq Dizzle who may not have what it takes anymore, plus when a Team like dalls has that many coaches on one bnech and that much money from Cuban, its time money spoke. A good laughWell I am sure you will all get a good laugh out of this but what the hell. My mum brought some old pictures and other things from my childhood and I figured I would share them. Go here to see everything.
Getting back to normal, the parents are on their way home, NHL and NBA are over and the sun is shining on a start of summer day!
Off to walk Bosco but I hope you are all having a great day.
----------------- updated blogs June 19 All good things come to an endWell the time has come, the parents have moved on down the road and have left Halifax. Last night they rolled out of town and back to the trailer for the last time before heading to the Cabot trail today. I will run down yesterday before wrapping up what was a busy and fun few weeks.
So yesterday we agreed that we would sort of do our own thing yesterday since Katie and I had a lot of day to day things to do. The plan was to meet up around 430-5 and go for a fathers day dinner.
I spent the day tidying and doing computer things and doing all that stuff you don't think you miss until you don't have the time to do it. Katie and I also went to the garden center and picked up some plants for the ever growing Kline Street garden. Mint was the goal so we can start using it for drinks!
So that day was perfect, relaxing and what a Sunday should be. Then my parents showed up around 445 and my sister had phoned to say happy fathers day so we all talked to her. We had a drink and took some more pics and then we were off. We hit the Old Triangle downtown which has been voted best pub food in the city for years by the Coast. It was good thats for sure.
Dad had the curry, mum had some fish. I had fish and chips and Katie had a salmon sandwich and salad.
Dad unwrapped a few gifts, drinks were savoured and a good time was had by all. My mum had brought dessert to the house so we went home to have tea and a cupcake before the headed out. I was pretty full but you can't turn down a cupcake!
So it was the time for goodbyes. Hugs all around and then the so long, see you soon. I will miss em but I know I will see them again soon. I enjoyed the visit and I really enjoyed seeing them and Katie get to know each other better. I know my mum and dad like her a lot and I am sure Corunna will soon know all about Katie Rose Rock.
So please back track and read all about the adventures, check out the pictures and see the city and province through the eyes of my parents. I know they will be back, the weather and food are right up there alley. Ontario seafood will not due now.
Thanks mum and dad for everything and for coming out, it was a great time and I look forward to the next time you visit. Katie I am sure would second that! Finally, Bosco misses you already, he has been looking out windows and the door and sniffing for the truck.
thats all folks!
June 18 Happy Fathers dayHappy Fathers day Dad, hope it is a good one! Haha I know it will be since you are here and we are going out for dinner later!
Here are a few pics for you all to enjoy. Lunenburg right ahead! So Saturday was adventure day and it turned out it was a beautiful day. Sun was shining, a small breeze was blowing, it really could not of been better. We were all up early and prepping to go to Lunenburg which was a sea side, small town about an hour away where tourists flock to.
We left around 10:30 am and made really good time as we got there around noon. Quiant, little place as you will see from the pictures. We broke up into two teams, my parents did their thing and Katie and I did ours. The plan was to meet up for lunch around 1:30 back at the truck.
So we did the tour, checked out some shops and soaked up the sea air. It was pretty cool and breezy but I found it very refreshing for the most part. Katie and I certainly wished we had more money because there were so many cool gifts and antiques to pick up. On a side note Katie wants to take her mother there so Casey if you are listening, hurry out, it is a cool place!
We met up with the parents and things had changed a bit due to news of a tall ship pulling into the harbour at 2pm. So we all gathered on a hill and watched it come around the bend and dock. It was pretty cool with all the boats honking to welcome the crew. A lot of people were out looking for that perfect picture. We then grabbed a bite to eat before heading down to the dock to get a close look at the boat. Once we had pleased the boating gods and had a good look up close it was time to leave. Next up Mahones Bay.
A short drive down the road we were in another cool little town called Mahones Bay. We checked out a vintage garage and I found the coolest coffee table but of course it was mucho dolla! Oh well everyone agreed it was a good find. After my parents picked up a few things it was on the road again to find this lobster restaurent my dad had seen advertised. It was called the Shore Club and was hidden in this camp area in a town called Hubbard. It was a pretty cool and casual place and was all about the lobster. They also claimed that you would never ever ever ever ever ever ever have fresher mussels than you would here. My parents and Katie agreed after trying them. As you know I am not the biggest seafood guy so I wimped out and had a yummy chcken cordon swiss instead. I did try some of Katie's lobster and it was not bad. My mum, dad and katie all had the lobster and of course I had to get there pics in the bibs.
It was a stuffer of a meal and we were all finished off by the time dessert was over. It was a great treat from my parents and I know they will be sad and let down from now on when they have seafood in Ontario.
Home time............back to reality and society.
Sunburned, tired, sore feet but what a good day!
Did I mention the night ended perfectly since the Oilers forced a Game 7 by killing the Hurricanes! Alberto was tougher than that!
ok this is me starting my Sunday and this is you going to do something way more important than reading my blog.
I found my thrill on Citadel HIllSo on Friday my parents had a free day if you will since Katie was taking care of some business. We would be meeting up later in the day to do some car grocery shopping and maybe find some patio furniture for the yard.
My parents arrived and we took the dogs for a quick walk before heading out. First stop, the historic Citadel Hill. After driving around the whole area we finally found the entrance and made the long and winding drive up to the top. It is a lot higher than it appears which is cool.
We parked, got out and jumped right into some very cool history. Once inside you are amazed at how much is up there because it is dug into the top of the hill to make it appear that there is not much there. I mean they fooled me, so I can only imagine what boats thought coming into the harbour.
We walked around the cool buildings and the best part for me was walking around the top looking out in the distance and seeing what they saw way back in the day.
As you will see from the pics you really can see a lot of the city and out into the ocean. A truly great vantage point when coming into the country.
My dad was having a great time seeing all the old canons and talking to the people working in their origional garb. They picked up a few things in the gift shop and we were off. Now this was after a lot of looking around but really the pictures tell the story.
Next we were pretty hungry so my parents took me to the Henry House (again) and it was a cool little place. The potato skins were filling and great. I know my parents will miss this place and the tasty seafood. I think they would prefer if I lived closer to it.
One more quick stop before heading home. The Rum cake store I have been telling my mother about ever since I saw it. It is down on Pier 21 where she landed and I figured it was fitting. On a side note we figured out that it is actually 50 years since my Mum landed here so we thought that was cool how she ended up visiting on that occasion. What better way to mark the event than a rum cake or two.
After this we went home and picked up Katie and off to the Sobeys. I won't go into this, we have all been grocery shopping! There were also no tables or chairs that we liked so that is for another day.
Once home it was time to kick off our shoes and relax. My parents were staying over since we had an early day on Saturday. So that meant they could have some drinks and not have to worry about where they were off to. Wine and beer was served and I went to take care of dinner while Katie entertained.
The menu was Indian. I made buttered chicken with rice, a salad and served some naan bread as well. Very good stuff and I think my parents enjoyed that a lot. The rest of the night was drinking and chatting and just hanging out. Martini's were had and it was a good night. Off to bed and looking ahead to a fun Saturday!

England v T&T - Final score England 2-0
Peel Pub
5650 Spring Garden Road, Halifax
Beer: Guiness and Keiths Red Amber
So maybe it was an omen that it was raining all day and the weather was very British? Maybe it was an omen that I was going to watch the game with a Brit (my day). But I had a good feeling about the big round 1 match against T&T on Thursday. So what better way to see it than to get out of the house and watch it with the people. We hit the Peel Pub because I had heard that is where the hard cores go to watch their boys. So we got there , picked out a prime seat and the beers started flowing. The crowd made up for its small size in their loud disappointment everytime England botched a glorious strike. My Mum was started to root for T & T just so something would happen.
When England kicked that one ball out of the net as it was going to go in was pretty amazing. I know there would of been some hooliganism after that one.
We ordered food and funny enuogh all ordered the same thing. A smoked meat sandwich plate. Very tasty indeed. Almost as tasty as what would happen in the 83rd minute. Becks as his close freinds call him struck a great ball that the 9 foot tall Peter Crouch headed into the net!
HUGE GASP OF RELIEF hits the pub. Smiles come out and everyone is happy as can be.
We all had calmed down from the first goal just in time for another one! Two goals is one game, who knew we would be so lucky! PArty time. Needless to say the one goal T&T scored that was later called back made a bit of tension again but it was short lived.
Jolly good show boys! You have fought of our disappointment for one more day. Next up those furniture making boys from Sweden!
This has nothing to do with the game but it is worth telling. I had told my parents earlier in the visit why locals here don't use umbrellas much. Due to alot of wind it just is pointless. So walking back to the car the wind got ahold of my dads big old scottish umbrella and blew it inside out. Comedy ensues as they try to get it back to normal inside the lobby of a condo. Anyways I took a few pics since nobody would believe it actually happened. It got fixed and now my parents will no better next time.
check out all the pics in the photo album.
The days before yesterdaySo I am starting to fall behind on the live on the fly blogging of my parents visit. The pictures are getting posted but the words that tickle your brain are lacking. So let me try to get caught up before I go into yesterday. Actually I will touch on yesterday and leave out the one thing I want to blog on its own which will be ahead of this post in the reading order so this will all be for nothing when you read it.
So this is bits and pieces that have happened since Monday evening.
Phew! I am tired just doing this. Anyways they will be here again in about an hour so I better get going.
have a good one. June 15 What a game!June 13 Let the sun shine throughWell today certainly was the best day of weather so far that my parents have been here. We made the most of it and hit Point Pleasant Park with the dogs. I will post the pics in the moring since I am at work right now.
Beautiful weather and a lot of great sites for my parents to take in. The dogs certainly loved it as well. I look forward to days of having a car when Bosco can get to the park a lot more often.
After that we hit the grocery store for a few things before heading home. I had a nap and my parents hit Quinpool for a few hours. They are finding all these little places I have not been too and they are meeting a lot of friendly locals as well.
They came back for dinner and that was certainly a feast. I cooked up some Italien sausages on the BBQ, whipped up some home made sweet potato fries and even a spinach salad! Toss in some wine, beer and ceasars, everyone had a good time. I know I am still feeling stuffed as I type away at 1:41am.
Won't see the parents again til Wednesday but there are certainly many good days and adventures to come.
That is all for now, back to work. June 12 Cuzzy Wonders
Okay I am starting up another feature today and it will just be about random things I wonder about and I will provide and little research and info about that topic. Feel free to contribute to this as well.
Cuzzy wonders about Rogue Waves
The are called freak waves or also known as rogue waves or even monster waves and they got me wondering just what they were and if they exist. It all came from the night we were watched Poseidon at the movies and the boat gets hit by some rogue wave that is impossible to detect. Now I did not have doubts that they existed but the way the movie portrayed them in about five seconds had me believe they were made up so they had a reason why the ship went down without any warning. I mean with all the world's technology could a giant, killer wave just pop out of nowhere and eat a boat up? This got me to research it a little.
Freak waves, also known as rogue waves or monster waves, are relatively large and spontaneous ocean surface waves which can sink even large ships and ocean liners. In oceanography, they are more concisely defined as waves that are more than double the significant wave height (SWH), which is itself defined as the mean of the largest third of waves in a wave record. Once thought to be only legendary, they are now known to be a natural (although relatively rare) ocean phenomenon. Anecdotal evidence from mariners' testimonies and damages inflicted on ships suggested they occurred; however, their scientific measurement was only positively confirmed following measurements of a freak wave at the Draupner oil platform in the North Sea on January 1, 1995. During this event, minor damage was inflicted on the platform, confirming that the reading was valid. In the course of the Project MaxWave, researchers from the GKSS Research Centre, using data collected by ESA satellites, identified a large number of radar signatures that may be evidence for freak waves. Further research is underway to verify the method that translates the radar echoes into sea surface elevation. Freak waves have been cited in the media as a likely source of the sudden, inexplicable disappearance of many ocean-going vessels. However, although a credible explanation for unexplained losses, there is to date little clear evidence supporting this hypothesis nor any cases where the cause has been confirmed, and the claim is contradicted by information held by Lloyd's Register.[1] One of the very few cases in which evidence exists that may indicate a freak wave incident is the 1978 loss of the frieghter München Freak waves in literature and film
So there you have it, they do exist and I hope that you never have to encounter one in your life. Although for those of you who have seen the new version of Poseidon, I would rather be in a killer wave than have to hear that song that closes out the movie again. Man that was bad. |
