August 13

Been a long time, long time

Well now that all the birthdays are over it is time to get back into the habit of posting. My sister and mum both had festive days and thank all those who made it better.

I do not even know where to begin so let me just jump right in with whatever comes to mind.

Tuesday

Tuesday was a day off technically but once it was over it felt like I had worked a full day. It was a day to get everything in order that had to do with the car. That meant insurance and finalizing the down payment.

Sounds easy?? Well being a newbie to the car world it sure did not seem easy. It turned out very good but man did I waster a lot of the day doing things I did not need to do. On a side note it was Katie's first day at her new job so that was exciting.

Back to me, I called all kinds of insurance companies and it was becoming clear that I was going to get killed since I had no history of insurance. We are talking over 2 grand a year. I did not like the feeling settling in down in my tummy. I thought I was going to have to get abstracts from the Ontario drivers license place along with all kinds of other running around. Luckily I asked Peter, our super car dealer and he recommended a place. Sure enough I called and in 15 minutes I had insurance that I could afford. What an ordeal.

Wednesday

Back to work but it was totally new thanks to the car. Sleeping in 30 minutes longer, driving Katie to work and then a nice 11 minute drive to my work. I was still early! Makes a day a lot better to have more sleep and get to work when you want to get there.

The trip home is even better, no traffic and I am home just after 9pm.

Thursday

Another great day for driving to work. I got to leave early to go see a movie, the Illusionist staring Edward Norton. It was an okay flick although we had to sit in the third row and stare straight up. A guy next to Katie actually answered his phone during the movie, lucky for him Katie did not introduce him to her purse!

The story behind the movie was, my supervisor gets free passes from time to time and since I was working over night by myself during the company boat cruise, he gave me the passes and let me leave work early. The theatre was packed since everyone there got in for free.

The cool part was after, we went through the drive thru at Harveys!!

Friday

The car was going in for window etching, undercoating and some shine was being added so I had to drop it off early and get a crappy loaner for the day. Man did it make me like our car even more.

Went to get my Nova Scotia drivers license and I almost got it. I got up to the desk finally and everything was filled out and then the Ontario database was down and they could not issue me a license. Will go back on Monday and hopefully get some plates too!

I watched Inside man at home and thought it was really good. Clive was good and the ending was a nice change.

Picked up our car and worked that night. I was on my own due to the company boat cruise and it certainly made the night busy.

Saturday

Slept all day and when I got up we went grocery shopping...........in the car haha. Man that made even grocery shopping fun. We were back in no time to enjoy a nice dinner before I headed to work. Oh forgot something for Friday, need to go back.

Now it is 427am and I am at work watching crappy tv.

Other notables

  • we booked our flight to Ottawa in september, I wonder what we will be able to take on the plane?
  • Bosco runs for the car every time we go out, he likes it I guess.
  • We got a new bath mat.
  • my Ipod is getting fixed.
  • Already bugging Kev about visiting Boston and they are not even there yet.
  • Gnarles Barkley is crazy.
  • Been eating a lot of pizza these days, need to get to the gym more.
  • 5 weeks til the Stones in Halifax, you got your tickets yet?

thats all I got, I hope to get back to normal posting soon.

August 08

I have a 30 year old sister

Happy Birthday Sarah!!

Today is the big day! Sarah, my little sister is turning 30. Wow how time flies. Just yesterday it seemed I was back in Corunna fighting over who's day it was to watch tv.

I was just thinking of some classic growing up times with Sarah. Like when I would tell her Mum wanted to see her downstairs to trick her to get out of the bathroom. Good times for sure. It was not always smooth sailing but I would like to think in our later years we have grown to be more civil and good friends on top of being related.

I am very happy that all of the health stuff has finally been figured out and now Sarah can start living it up and enjoying everything again. I don't know how you put a value on all the time one doctor has taken away from her but I know it would be more than he could repay.

I remember all the good parties and get togethers that previous birthdays have brought Sarah. People falling in fires and a lot of drinking.

I hope you have a super day, 30 is not that bad, to be honest it was my favorite birthday to date. The heatlh stuff is taken care of, next up a good job and then it will be keep rolling from there. You know how it goes, nothing is that easy for a Cusden but it always works out in the end. Classic mother line eh??

Here are some more birthday notes from around the horn.

From Kevin.
Happy Birthday Sarah!  Welcome to the over 30 club.  Hope you have a chance to go out and celebrate, although I hope you don't bite anyone on the way home.  I can't believe how fast time goes by.  It seems like just yesterday that we were calling you Clara Belle, teasing you about dating Nick from Y&R, marvelling at your obsession with Steve Yzerman and New Kids on the block, calling Guiness about the fortitude of your belches, getting a busy signal while you were on the phone for three hours, watching you roll out of bed at 3pm everyday, and, most importantly, sharpening our rapier wits at your expense.  You know the only time Michael and I weren't trying to annoy each other was when we were trying to annoy you.   So always remember that, at the very least, you fill that very important niche in our lives!  Have a great birthday!

finally here is a link to a picture video I put together, I hope you enjoy it.

The first road trip

Since it was Natal day today and we were both off we figured it was time to hop in the new car and go on an adventure. Grabbed tunes an idea of where to go and of course the big Chocolate in the back seat. Off we went, due south east towards Purcell's Cove. We ended up at Crystal Crescent Beach and it was pretty cool. My first Nova Scotia, ocean beach! Bosco had a blast running on the sand and swimming in the water. We walked around taking in the scenery and the mind clearing sea air.

It was hard to believe that this cool, tucked away place was just a short 30 minute drive. I think we will have to go back for sure.

Check out the pictures and have a good day. Tomorrow is a huge day on the blog so be sure to come back.

What is Natal day?

So this is my first Natal day and I keep asking the locals what it actually is and who it is named after. So far nobody really knows other than they get the day off or get paid like it is a holiday. I did some digging and here is what I found.

The term Natal Day stems from the Roman-era way of saying birthday and was adopted in Nova Scotia as the title of the day to celebrate the arrival of the railway in the Halifax area in August 1895.

The tracks hadn’t quite made it to the region at the time, but the people who had organized the party decided to turn Natal Day, which is also observed by Prince Edward Island, into a holiday celebrating the origins of Nova Scotia every first Monday in August.

So there you have it, I now know what this Natal day business is. I kind of got the best of both worlds if you think about it. I worked from midnight to 9am (OT cash money) and am off the rest of the day.

HAPPY NATAL DAY ONE AND ALL

More car stuff

Well it is 5:54am and I have some time to write some more on the big news of the weekend. The purchase of our new car. For those who are unfamiliar with a Chevy Malibu Max, here is a write up on it and funny enough, the pic is the same colour we got.

I drove it to work tonight and it was smooth and wonderful to drive. So nice being to work in 10 minutes instead of the bus. I actually passed the bus I would be on haha.

A few days after it is all sinking in and I am feeling better and better about it. I mean I still have to secure some insurance so that is all that is left to add to the pile of money we are now throwing into this car.

Tomorrow (later today I guess) the plan is to go for a drive out of the city with the dog and just live it up on Katie's last day before her new job. I know she said she is going to check in soon so I won't go much into her new job just yet.

Today we hung out in the backyard and took care of some phone calls and Katie's friend Jeff came over for a chat and a drink. I think I could live in the backyard if the days would all be like today.

Maybe there is room for a new blog all about the car?? Nah, I would have to quit my day job just to have the time to manage all of them.

Okay, 6am, time to get back to work, have a good day one and all.

New shoes. Katie and I both got some new shoes today at the mall. I got some trainers for the gym and Katie got some new shoes for work.

Sobey it! We went to Sobey's for a big grocery shop, it was tiring but we now have a lot of good food.

New look

So I go to sleep, wake up and to my suprise MSN has gone and changed all kinds of stuff with the look of their spaces. I have to say at first glance I do not really like it that much and there is just way too much stuff. It looks way to nusy and you do not even get to see the backend where there are more options than my brain knows what to do with.

I guess the one good thing is they got rid of the wasted space on the right side of the page and now the middle area is wider. Good for putting in bigger pictures I suppose. I have been toying with the idea of leaving the MSN space behind, maybe just use it for pictures.

This is certainly making me think about getting that plan in motion.

What does everyone else think??

August one recap

I think I last left you with us having lunch in the backyard. Well after that Katie had a nap and watched her shows (Oprah, Dr. Phil) and I puttered on the computer for a few hours. After that we took the bus downtown to the Thirsty Duck for dinner. It was my night to cash in on winning the Survivor bet from way back in the spring. The Duck is just a pub on Spring Garden road that boasts to have one of the best patio's in the city. It was a pretty cool roof top patio I do have to say. It was high enough to see boats going by in the harbour so that was nice. Katie had mussels and fries and I had fish and chips. We beforehand had some of the best spinach and artichoke dip ever as an ap. My fish and chips were not the best but I certainly left full.

After that we had some time to kill before the movie so we went to HMV across the street. Ever since getting back from Toronto Katie has been raving about Dave Chapelle's Block PArty so she went and picked it up. I think we are going to watch it tonight.

We got to the theatre pretty early and got a nice seat. All ready for 2 1/2 hours of Miami Vice! Previews ended, people turned off their gear and it was time to rumble. Now I would like if someone could help me out here but it seemed like the theatre chopped the start of the movie, it started very sudden, no title or opening credits and it was mid-song in a scene. If someone else sees this and thinks it is weird let me know.

The flick was okay, typical cop stuff with Colin and Jamie taking turns being the cool guy. The pacing was all over the place and never really settled into something flowing. It certainly could of been tightened into 2 hours or less. I was telling Katie that David Caruso should of been in it, he would of fit in perfect.

We both were looking at our watches a lot as it was nearing the end and were pretty happy it was over. A lot of good songs and nice, dark scenery of Miami. I think they must of shown thunder and lightning 5 times but it never rained. I guess that would of rinsed Colin's greasy hair too much.

All in all it was what I expected, typical summer movie with typical good points and bad points. There was a good trailer though for a Denzel movie in the fall called Deja Vu. Can't wait for that one.

Can ride home and the night was over, long day, good sleep and now we do it all over again.

Sunny again and it is supposed to be the hottest day of the year, that being said for you in Ontario, it won't be that bad.

Anyways I hope you all have a great day and remember there are a lot of Stones tickets left for your purchasing.

Ipod update

You may remember that a few months ago I had an Ipod meltdown. The sad face of failure. Well a few months has passed and I have had a few friends of friends of friends look at it and give their opinion and finally news. It can be fixed and will be as good as new. There was some malfunction with the mechanics inside and new parts are needed. I am going to get it fixed with new parts and a new face plate for a fairly cheap price. Pretty good eh? Everything should still be on it too so that is a bonus.

The nano has been filling in great for me though and I really like it. The lightweight feeling of it in my pocket and the cool little colour screen.

Now I will be able to use the big pod for more of a back up hard drive and I can leave it hooked up to the stereo.

Not much going on today, Katie is back safe and sound and happy to be out of the Ontario heat. Today we went for a long Bosco walk and then had some bbq lunch in the backyard. Tonight as I have mentioned we are going out for dinner and to see Miami Vice. I have been listening to the soundtrack and it is not bad.

In Deadwood news, I have finished season one and just watched the first episode of season two. You could say I am hooked.

In other news, we are having our fourth day of nice weather in a row. I do not have the exact stats in front of me but I think that is the first time that has happened all summer.

There are still Stones tickets left...........

have a good one.

i've
become so numb
i can't feel you there
become so tired
so much more aware
i'm becoming this
all i want to do
is be more like me
and be less like you
